Image quality: I know 2x teleconverters magnify any lens imperfections, but I have been very happy with the sharpness of the Sigma 70-200 even on extremely tight crops and pixel-peeping. I feel like I should not be too concerned about the effect of image quality when using the 2x III.

As the 70-200 f/4L is compatible with the Canon Extender EF 1.4x II and the Canon Extender EF 2x II, these are popular accessories for this lens. With the 1.4x, the 70-200 f/4 becomes a 98-280mm f/5.6 lens that retains excellent image quality (adding more barrel distortion and some additional CA). Putting a 2X teleconverter onto a 70-200/4 makes for an "effective" 140-400/8 lens. Due to the reduction in light reaching the AF sensors, your camera will turn off auto focus. A stronger 2X also will "cost" more loss of image quality due to degradation.

The new Series III extenders have improved optical and electronic contacts and the enable faster responses from the lens. The 7D II is one of the few cameras that allows the use of a 1.4x and 2x extender with full use of AF and exposure information transfers. The newer series III extenders has a more ivory-white color to better match the newer
I'm surprise at Shutterbug for allowing such a misrepresentation in this article here and in print (August 2011 issue). The "Canon Extender EF 2X III" is not completely compatible with the Canon EF 70-300mm f 4-5.6L IS USM lens. In order to attach the extender you have to set the lens at 300mm and then it becomes a fix 600mm focal length.

Can anyone confirm if the Sigma 15-600 contemporary will attach and function with the Canon 2x iii attached? Thanks a million. Andy. I have tried this setup before. I want to say its f/11 and manual focus only. On a tripod the results were usable with a 5Dmk4 body. I think I concluded that equivalent results could be had with cropping the RAW

2x increase of the lens's focal length; Dustproof and waterproof specifications (JIS 2 equivalent) Lens placement and coatings are optimized to minimize the ghosting; Built-in microcomputer in the extenders enables communication between lens, extender and camera yC74xSa.
